The DCHS Forensics (Speech, Drama, and Debate) team traveled to Sidney on January 27th and 28th for the Montana Class A State Forensics Tournament. There were 22 schools present and each student faced anywhere from 5 to 7 rounds of intense competition. Glendive was represented by 12 students in 7 speech categories and 5 drama categories.
After the first 5 rounds, the top 16 go to semifinals. Cassidy Rau and Mark Rowland made it in Duo Interpretation, Mark Rowland made it in Informative speaking, and Gage Schlosser made it in Impromptu. Drama didn't have semifinals due to lack of competition from the western side of the state.
The finals round takes the top 8 in each event. These are the students who receive awards and recognition at the state level. For DCHS, these students were Gage Schlosser in Impromptu, Ora Neves in Dramatic Solo, and Alex Whitmer and Jacob Beach in Humorous Theater. The rest worked hard and were excellent examples of good sportsmanship and character.
Final tally: Gage Schlosser earned 8th in Impromptu, Ora Neves earned 6th in Dramatic Solo, and Alex Whitmer and Jacob Beach earned 2nd in the state in Humorous Theater. DCHS Red Devil pride is alive and well with this group!
The team would like to extend thank you's to all who contributed to their success, to parents and friends, the Boosters, administrators, bus drivers, and coaches and judges from around the state who helped them become the competitors they are.
We'd like to invite the public to a showcase and awards ceremony on February 11 from 1-4pm in the DCHS auditorium. Come and see clips and live performances of the students' events and find out who earned letters and honors. See you there, and GO DEVILS!!!
