Welcome to our community information page! In May, we have an important opportunity to make a decision together about the future of our schools in Glendive. Our district has a unique chance to purchase a parcel of land that could be the site of future educational facilities. This isn't about asking for more money; thanks to the foresight and support of our community in approving a building reserve levy back in May 2023, we have the funds needed for this purchase. This decision is solely about choosing a location that will serve our current and future students well. The land in question is conveniently located, meets all the requirements for a new educational facility, and comes at a negotiated price that fits within our existing budget. We're asking for your vote to approve this site selection, enabling us to proceed with the purchase and keep moving forward in enhancing our district's educational infrastructure.
GPS is not asking for the money for this land, just permission to purchase the land.
Where Is The Land Located?
Our school district has been looking for land for a while. After our May elections, we were approached to do an options agreement for this land. This 39.08 acres of land is located north of Interstate 94, east of Jefferson School Road, south of Highland Park, and west of Town Pump. We believe this location is ideal for building a facility that will make our community proud and support our students' educational journeys for generations to come.
Legal Description: For those interested in the specific details, the land is described as S27, T16 N, R55 E, C.O.S. 1090, PARCEL B, ACRES 39.08, Dawson County, Montana.
Pricing
As we approach this significant decision, it's essential to clarify that this is not a request for additional funds from our community. Instead, we're asking for your approval to strategically invest in our future. Thanks to your support in the Spring of 2023, when the building reserve levy was passed, we allocated funds with foresight. Out of the $400,000 approved annually, $150,000 has been dedicated to loans for the LES modular, leaving us with $250,000 to work with. The purchase price for the 39.08 acres of land is set at $136,786.00—a figure well within our budget from the existing levy, ensuring no additional financial burden falls upon our taxpayers.
This move is not just about the immediate future but about giving our district flexibility and options. Acquiring this land does not presuppose the immediate construction of a new school. It does, however, open doors: whether it's renting the land for now, selling it in the future should our plans change, or holding it until the time is right for development. In every scenario, this land represents a sound investment for our district—a blank canvas with potential for educational use, community benefit, or financial gain. This strategy ensures that we are prepared for whatever needs may arise, even if it's 50 years down the line, making the most of our resources and your trust.
